How do I retrieve mail from remote servers/accounts and file that mail into Citadel?

Citadel can automatically retrieve email from external POP3 mailboxes and deliver the incoming messages directly into any room (such as your personal Mail folder, or a shared departmental room). It can also aggregate remote RSS feeds into rooms.

Configuring Remote Retrieval in WebCit

To configure remote POP3 collection in the WebCit interface:

1. Navigate to the room into which you wish to fetch messages (usually your Mail room, i.e., your inbox, or a shared room).
2. Click the gear icon (⚙) next to the room name in the top navigation bar to open Edit or delete this room.
3. Select the Remote retrieval tab.

Remote POP3 Accounts

Under Retrieve messages from these remote POP3 accounts and store them in this room, fill in the row:

• Remote host: The hostname or IP address of the external POP3 server (e.g., pop.example.com).
• User name: Your login or email username on the remote server.
• Password: The password for the remote POP3 account.
• Keep messages on server? Check this box if you want to leave a copy of messages on the remote server. Leave unchecked if you want Citadel to delete messages from the remote server after downloading them.
• Interval: Frequency (in seconds) between collection runs. If left at zero or blank, collection occurs at the system default interval. (Note: The system administrator can set a minimum collection interval limit).
• Click the Add button (+) to add the account, then click Save changes.

RSS Feed Aggregation

The same Remote retrieval tab also allows you to aggregate remote RSS feeds directly into the room. Enter the feed URL into the Feed URL box and click + Add. RSS feeds are fetched automatically at the interval configured by the system administrator.

Citadel Text-Mode Client

If you prefer the text-mode client, you can configure remote POP3 retrieval using the .Enter remote POP3 accounts command (or shortcut .e3).
