How do I connect mobile devices to Citadel?

Citadel integrates seamlessly with modern mobile operating systems (iOS and Android) using open, standard internet protocols for email, calendars, and address books.

Calendars and Contacts (CalDAV & CardDAV)

Citadel includes native support for industry-standard CalDAV (calendaring) and CardDAV (contacts/address books).

Apple iOS (iPhone & iPad)

iOS includes native, system-level support for CalDAV and CardDAV accounts without requiring any third-party apps:

  1. Open Settings → Mail (or Calendar / Contacts) → Accounts → Add Account.
  2. Select Other.
  3. Choose Add CalDAV Account (for calendars) or Add CardDAV Account (for contacts).
  4. Enter your Citadel server hostname (e.g., citadel.example.org), along with your username and password.
  5. iOS will discover your calendars and address books automatically via standard service discovery.

Android

Android does not bundle CalDAV/CardDAV support into the base OS, but you can synchronize directly with Android's native Calendar and Contacts apps using DAVx⁵ (available on Google Play and F-Droid):

  1. Install and open DAVx⁵.
  2. Add a new account and choose Login with URL and user name.
  3. Enter your server address (e.g., https://citadel.example.org/) and your Citadel credentials.
  4. Select the calendar rooms and address book rooms you wish to synchronize. DAVx⁵ will sync them directly into Android's native calendar and contacts storage in the background.
